Did you know that the mind is truly a powerful thing? Did you also know that you can use your mind to attract good and bad things to happen in your life? Here‘s the secret: what you choose to think about and focus on has a major effect on how things turn out in your life. If you focus all your energy on what you don’t want to happen chances are those things will begin to manifest in your life. But the good news is the opposite is also true. If you think great thoughts then great things will begin to show up in your life.
Let me give you an example. Several years ago I was in so much debt it felt like I would never see the end of the debt tunnel. My house was in foreclosure, my car was about to be repossessed and anything that had to do with financial ruin was happening to me and my family. Now I don’t know about you but this situation would cause anyone to think negatively about their future, and for a while that’s all I did. It wasn’t long before I almost had a nervous breakdown and realized that something had to change. The worrying was killing me. I was doing all I could and things were still stressful. Something had to change about the way I was thinking about my situation.
I thought that things were never going to get better. I thought no one would understand what I was going through. I thought I was a failure because I had allowed my life and my financial situation to get to the level it did. I may have allowed my financial situation to get to this level, however I was not a failure because of it. And yes the situation could get better.
After some serious soul searching I had to make some commitments to change my ways including all of my negative thinking. I believe in life we make commitments to everyone around us but ourselves. If that sounds familiar to you, it’s time for a change. Now is the time for you to make some serous commitments to yourself. They will help you overcome your negative thinking and put you on the path towards success. Making these types of commitments helped me defeat my negative thinking and got my on the right path to fixing my financial situation.
What should I commit to? Keep reading.
Make a commitment to stop worrying and trust in your higher power that things will be ok. This was the first commitment I had to make in my situation. You see, I was worrying myself so much that I almost experienced a nervous breakdown. When I truly decided to give my situation to God, I felt a peace about it like never before. This peace carried through the next year and a half as I fought to save my house and my car. (By the way I did end up saving my house. My car did get repossessed but of course I was able to get another one.)
Make a commitment to think positively. You have to do this no matter what! I had to constantly put positive thoughts in my mind. When the negative thoughts tried to creep in I had to press the stop button and then delete. You must tell yourself you are in control of your own thoughts and you choose to be positive.
Make a commitment to talk positively to yourself. Every day I had to renew this commitment to myself. I had to do this because it’s so easy to talk badly to yourself. Write down three positive self-talk statements that you can use during the times when your negative thinking starts to get in the way. An example of this is, I am amazing and capable of getting through any problem that pops up in my life.
Make a commitment to get away from negative people and get closer to positive people. This is imperative. How do you expect to keep your commitment to thinking positively if you are always around people who infuse negativity into the situation? It doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t work. Get away from these people. They suck the blood and the life out of you and you will never be successful in their presence.
Make a commitment to do at least one positive thing for yourself every day. The truth is you probably do so many things for other people every day but nothing for yourself. Then at the end of the day you feel drained because you have spent all your time helping others. Well it’s nice to help others but not at the expense of draining yourself. When you treat yourself you feel good about yourself which in turn helps you to think more positive thoughts about the state of your life. So take 15 or 20 minutes every day to do something for you, such as exercise, reading a book, praying or talking on the phone to a girlfriend. This little act of kindness towards yourself will go a long way.
Make a commitment to be grateful for what you have today. I am sure you have so much to be grateful for but chances are you do not take the time to be grateful for those things. This was my case. I was going through so much financially I never stopped to appreciate all the things I should be thankful for, like my family, and having enough food to eat. When I decided to be grateful and stop all the negative thinking I realized I had so much to be thankful for and I began thanking God every day for the things I did have instead of complaining about the things I did not have.
Make a commitment to believe big in your dreams. When you are going through tough times it will make you think that your dreams will never come true. Hard situations will make to abandon your dreams. But I am here to tell you to never stop believing in your dreams. You were made to accomplish your dreams and that’s why following through on all of these commitments you’re making to yourself is so important. Your negative thoughts can hinder your dreams but when you make this commitment to continue dreaming big despite your situation you are taking your power back and that’s exactly what I did. So many of my dreams have come true since I made this commitment to myself. Now it’s time for you to think about your dreams and commit to making them come true.
Today’s message is your mind is a powerful thing. But the truth is, you control your mind and you have the option to think positively or negatively. When you choose the positive, possibilities begin to open up that you never imagined and your situation begins to get brighter. It’s time to use the power of your mind and thoughts for good and that’s the power of a positive mindset.
